    Skyward Sword Item Upgrades Guide

Upgrade your items at the Scrap Shop in Skyloft's Bazaar
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword introduces a new gameplay mechanic to the Zelda mix - item upgrades. By finding loot and other materials in the field or as enemy drops, Link can synthesize them with his equipment to create better gear and even brand-new items!

As part of our Skyward Sword Walkthrough project, we're committed to providing info on every upgrade and piece of loot in the game - from shield buffs to full-blown transformations, bugs to raw minterals.

We also have a Skyward Sword Heart Piece Guide that details all the hidden locations of Heart Pieces. It's broken down by area and designed to be easy to refer back to every time you get a new piece of equipment, so keep checking back each time you complete a new area. No matter what you're searching for, we've got a guide to help!

    How to Upgrade Your Items

If you want to upgrade your items and equipment, you'll need to head to the Scrap Shop, located in the Skyloft Bazaar. Look for the large complex at the center of town with the large Rupee icons adorning its entrances. Inside you'll find a large marketplace full of all kinds of shops, fortune-tellers, and the like. You're looking for the Scrap Shop, a workshop of sorts run by a blacksmith.

The Bazaar is full of odds and ends and shops and things This guy's the smithy who runs the Scrap Shop

In order to upgrade your items, you'll need a few things:
    • An item that's ready for upgrade. Common sense, really.
    • Raw materials needed to improve your items. These are found in the field or from defeated enemies and can be anything from monster bones to ore to wads of goo. (See the Collection List for details on what kinds of items can be used for upgrade.)
    • The required Rupee fee. What, did you think the smithy would work for free?
Select the item you want to upgrade from the menu and pony up the required costs and the Scrap Shop guy will set right to creating it. When he's done, you'll have some newly improved gear! Upgraded gear is often more powerful than standard gear but also changes in appearance and usually acquires additional abilities or effects...

Occasionally you'll receive Item Upgrades through more ordinary means: as gifts, in dungeons, et cetera. There are far more upgrades available through the Scrap Shop, but the "required upgrades" are all out in the field.

You can also upgrade Potions in a similar manner at the Infusion Shop. Potions involve a different set of Collection Items - Bugs - which you can catch using your Bug Net. Upgrading potions increases their effects. For example, an upgraded Heart Potion will restore all of your hearts!

    Item Upgrade Paths

Here you can browse all the possible item upgrades to see what materials you need and how much they cost. They're sorted by both item class and the starting point in the upgrade chain - shields first, equip items second, and other gear last.
