Chapter 17: Song of the Fire Dragon

Skyward Sword Walkthrough

Skyward Sword Story Guides:

Skyward Sword Secrets Guides:

Objectives:

  1. Seek out the Fire Dragon at Eldin Volcano.
  2. Recover your lost equipment.
  3. Defeat the enemies inside the summit caves and enter the Fire Dragon's lair.

Important Obtainables:

New Enemies:

1 - Seek out the Fire Dragon at Eldin Volcano.

The Fire Dragon lives in the Volcano Summit. Should be an easy trip, right? But as you prepare to land, the volcano erupts, sending your flight off-course and forcing you to crash-land at the bottom of the volcano. Bokoblins will seize the opportunity to capture you and imprison you in their newly-reinforced base. They've also beaten you up pretty badly and hidden most of your equipment!

2 - Recover your lost equipment.

Fortunately, the Mogmas are ready to help you get your stuff back. One of them pops his head into your cell and hands you your Mogma Mitts, which you can use to burrow outside. Once you make it out of your cell, you're not quite out of the woods - Bokoblin Guards patrol the area up ahead. As long as you stay out of their line of sight, which shouldn't be too hard as they're pretty stupid, you can avoid getting caught, but if you pass across any of their lamplights you'll be sent back a short ways and will have to make another attempt at slipping beyond them.

Bokoblin Guard
Bokoblin GuardBokoblins have set up a base here and stolen your gear, but with careful stealth you can slip past them and recover all your stuff. Watch out for their lamplights and guard towers as you make your way around the volcano.

Head forward and drop off the ledge onto the ground below and your Mogma savior will give you another bit of help: he'll mark your map with the locations of some of your hidden items. You can use this map to help coordinate your efforts to reclaim those items. The first one you want to recover is the Gust Bellows, which will help you clear out some of the hot magma blocking certain pathways. To get it, follow behind the Bokoblin Guard patrolling the area up ahead. After a certain point you'll be able to cut to the left to get away from him and burrow into a Mogma tunnel.

You know the drill by now - crush the rocks, bomb the debris, and look for a second exit. From here, move to the north until you see a watchtower. You don't want to get too close to this baby - passing through the light shining down from it in any form will get you caught. There is however another Mogma tunnel against one of the fences nearby, so drop down into it, and seek out another exit. Once you emerge, you can recover your Gust Bellows from the chest here.

Cool off the superhot magma blocking the ledges nearby and follow them all the way to their highest point. Here you'll find more Bokoblin Guards. Follow the first one just as you did during your original encounter, but hide in the Mogma house he passes when you get the chance and wait for him to walk back in the other direction before you make a break for it. Use a similar strategy with the other Bokoblin - follow him, hide behind a fence when you get a chance, and run when the coast is clear. Drop into the Mogma tunnel here and you'll run into a Moldorm roaming the tunnels. You've fought a few of these in Fire Sanctuary, and they're just as stressful as ever. Emerge on the far right end of the tunnel and drop down from the ledge to grab the Clawshots from a nearby chest.

Use your Clawshots to follow the line of Peahats and hanging vines until you see a lava flow carrying some hardened platforms by. Hop onto one of the drifting platforms and ride it to a ledge off to the west. Wait for the nearby Bokoblin to head past you to the right, then climb up and make a break for the fenced-off area to the north. From there you can Clawshot up to some vines that give you a nice view of a nearby guard tower. Grab one of the Bomb Flowers growing just next to you and toss it at the tower to destroy it. With the tower gone, you can get close enough to the nearby chest to claim its contents: your Whip.

Approach the retracted bridge where you first met Impa and use your Whip to pluck the Peahat sprout from the ground. You can use this Peahat to Clawshot across the gap. A couple blocked passages to the right prevent you from progressing, but you can clear them with Bomb Flowers. Hop into the massive updraft of air and let it carry you to the summit.

At the top, head south, towards the Earth Temple, but cut to the left when you reach the Bokoblin base there. Use your Clawshot to travel down the line of Peahats, then hop on the passing hardened platform so you can toss a Bomb Flower at the tower across the lava flow. You can grab the Slingshot from the chest once the coast is clear, then head back up using the Peahats and continue towards the Earth Temple.

With your Slingshot, you can stun enemies pretty easily. Use it to get past the two Bokoblin Guards roaming the Earth Temple vicinity, then knock out the one running the guard tower up ahead. In the short window of safety you'll create, make a break for the Mogma tunnel entrance nearby the tower and burrow your way through. When you emerge, you'll be right next to your missing Bomb Bag. Now you can destroy this last tower as well as kill the guards nearby the Earth Temple.

3 - Defeat the enemies inside the summit caves and enter the Fire Dragon's lair.

Now that you have Bombs, you can access the Volcano Summit, where the rest of your equipment awaits. You still have your Fireshield Earrings, so dive right into the superhot areas and blast away the molten blockages to get inside. Your Master Sword is stuck in the ground immediately inside the cave, so retrieve it, then proceed through the doorway on your right. Defeat the Cursed Spumes here with Skyward Strikes, then ride the floating platforms all the way to a door on the left-hand side. (Activate the nearby Goddess Cube as you pass it!)

Beyond this door is a room where a lava pit blocks your way. You can stab a water fruit and use it to cool off the lava so you can cross, so it's not too much of a setback. From there, drop down from the ledge and defeat the enemies so you can recover the rest of your gear from the chest there.

With your items back in business, return to the room with the lava flow and the Cursed Spumes you fought earlier and ride the floating platforms again. The Fire Dragon is through the room on the right. A drawbridge is all that separates you from the dragon. You can slice one of the ropes holding it up with your sword, but you'll need to use either your Beetle or Bow to sever the two off in the distance. Cross the bridge and approach the dragon to gain his part of the Song of the Hero.

Fire Dragon's Song
This is one of the three songs held in memory by the three dragons of the surface world. Find the other two songs and return to Levias to learn the Song of the Hero!
