Secrets:

1 - Learn Farore's Courage from the temple at the Isle of Songs.

Once you're inside the temple at the Isle of Songs, activate the Goddess Crest with a Skyward Strike and a miniature version of the Goddess Statue will teach you the mystical song of the Goddess Farore: Farore's Courage. Like the Ballad of the Goddess, you don't really need to memorize the melody. In fact, you don't even need to practice it to acquire it!

Farore's Courage
Farore's Courage is the sacred melody tied to the ancient Goddess of Courage. It'll open up the Trial Gate leading to Farore's Silent Realm, which houses the first of the three Sacred Gifts.

Find out more at Zeldapedia: Farore's Courage.

When you regain control, head out of the temple and depart from the Thunderhead, then turn your bird's beak towards Faron Woods and disembark.

2 - Hunt down the Trial Gate in Faron Woods.

You need to find a Trial Gate, a mystical portal to a spiritual world hidden by the Goddess in the forest, in order to earn a Sacred Gift which you'll need to reach the place where you can empower your sword. Luckily Fi has added the Trial Gate as a Dowsing target, but it isn't that hard to find. Just scout the fields in the vicinity of the Viewing Platform just outside the entrance to Deep Woods and you'll find a faint glow amidst a group of Blessed Butterflies. Approach the site and strum your harp a little to activate the gate.

Now you'll need to perform Farore's Courage to fully open the gateway. The process is about the same as your performance of the Ballad of the Goddess from earlier, except the tempo and melody are of course slightly different. If you keep in time with the pulsing light, Fi will sing and several "petals" will open up around the portal. Once the portal's in full bloom, thrust your sword into the ground by holding the A button and shaking the Wii Remote downward and you'll be sucked into the site of your trial: Farore's Silent Realm.

3 - Clear the trials in Farore's Silent Realm.

The Silent Realm looks very much like the real world, except it's bathed in a calming blue light. You can't carry any weapons with you in the Silent Realm, so all you'll have are your wits and your ability to navigate the area. Your objective is to collect all 15 of the Tears of Farore scattered about the area without getting caught by the Guardians. Lantern-carrying Watchers roam the area and will alert the Guardians if you pass through their line of sight, so beware their lamplights as you travel. Look out for pools of water in the Silent Realm - they're filled with a special liquid called Waking Water, and if you set foot in them all the Guardians will awaken instantly.

Guardian
GuardianGuardians watch incessantly over the spiritual Silent Realm. You can't defeat the them since you left your weapons behind in the real world, so just run. If you pick up one of the Tears of Light scattered across the realm, the world will be bathed in a pale blue light that stuns the Guardians for the next 90 seconds. Find all the Tears quickly!

Find out more at Zeldapedia: Guardian.

Watcher
WatcherWatchers patrol the Silent Realm in tandem with the Guardians. They're unaffected by the Tears of Light and their lights shine through the stunning glow cast by the Tears, making them extra dangerous. If you're caught in their lamplight, they'll let out a loud chime that immediately smothers the power of the Tears and awakens the Guardians - so you'll have to tread carefully even while the Guardians are stunned.

Find out more at Zeldapedia: Watcher.

Stepping outside of the circle of safety are the entry portal will immediately awaken the Guardians, but grabbing the nearby Tear will stun them for 90 seconds, giving you a bit of a safety net as you search for the other Tears. You'll have to be quick if you want to find them all without alerting the Guardians. White fruit found in certain locations will cause the Tears to shoot beacons into the air for fifteen seconds, making it a little easier to plan your approach.

You'll find Tears in the following locations:

  • Directly in front of you once you exit the protective circle.
  • On the Viewing Platform.
  • To the left of your starting point, along the tree's roots.
  • Climb the roots and scale the vines and you'll find a Tear waiting for you on the ledge at the top.
  • On a small island surrounded by Waking Water. Cross using the fallen log.
  • Just outside a crawlspace beyond the island with the previous Tear.
  • Nearby the hole where you found Oolo in the real world.
  • To the right of the last Tear, follow the path to the tree at the end of the road. The area around the tree will periodically fill with Waking Water, then drain. Run across to grab the Tear when the coast is clear.
  • On a series of ledges overlooking the steep slope.
  • Midway up the steep slope.
  • In the small grove off to the left at the top of the slope.
  • Nearby the "forest entrance" in the real world.
  • Nearby a log at the edge of one of the tree's roots. You can push down the log to create a shortcut back to the portal.
  • On the edge of a pool of Waking Water, guarded by Watchers. You'll see this pool nearby the larger one that passes under the Great Tree's roots.
  • Across a tightrope overlooking the big pool of Waking Water by the Great Tree's roots.
Once you've gathered all the Tears, return to the realm's entrance - don't get caught on the way! - and you'll receive the first Sacred Gift: the Water Dragon's Scale!

Water Dragon's Scale
Water Dragon's ScaleWith this prized scale from the Water Dragon, won as a Sacred Gift from the Silent Realm, you can swim underwater, as well as gain the acrobatic abilities of the Water Dragon.

Find out more at Zeldapedia: Water Dragon's Scale.

4- Scale the Great Tree and talk to the Kikwi Hermit.

The deepest pool of water you've encountered thus far is at the foot of the Great Tree. Dive down into it and you'll find a small entrance leading into the tree's roots. Swim through the air bubbles to replenish your Air Meter. Once you're inside the main chamber, swim over to the vines to your right and climb up them. Blast the enemies with your Slingshot to blow them up - try to catch the Bokoblin ahead in the crossfire.

Hop on the first of the hanging planks ahead and point your Gust Bellows at the opposite one. Unleash a burst of air to blast both of them away from each other, then put away the Bellows and they'll swing back towards each other, giving you a moment to hop between them. Once you've landed on the second platform, point the Bellows again to give it a boost, then approach the exit up ahead.

Outside the tree, turn to your left and climb up the ledges. At the highest one, use your Slingshot to shoot down the Walltulas hanging up above, then climb the vines until you reach a ledge a little ways to your left. Rest there a moment to replenish your stamina, shoot the Walltulas you can reach from here, then start up the next set of vines. Head for the Stamina Fruit and drop down in front of another entrance to the inside of the tree.

You'll find a narrow ledge guarded by a Moblin. He's tricky since the path is so narrow, so you might want to just avoid fighting him and just get a running start towards his shield. This will let you hop on top of it and over his head, and you can just proceed through the exit behind him. If you're feeling bold you can try to fight him off. Outside there's a Bird Statue that you can use to save your progress, but then proceed up the path to the left. A blue Bokoblin chief will summon some reinforcements, so fight them off with your sword and proceed.

Moblin
MoblinMoblins carry large shields that are bigger than you! Fortunately, their shields are made of wood, making them easy fodder for your sword. The direction in which you slice them is reflected in the way they fall apart. Once their shields are out of the way, you can cut them directly. Watch out for their spear attacks, though - they're big and strong and can take out a decent portion of your life! If you dash directly at them, you can hop on top of their shields and over their heads to attack them from behind.

Find out more at Zeldapedia: Moblin.

Ward off the Keese ahead and you'll reach a set of vines leading you to the tippity top of the tree. You get a pretty good look at the watery area you need to visit next, but you'll also see a sleeping Kikwi above and to your right that you can wake up with a Deku Seed. He'll tell you how to open the gate to the lake where the Water Dragon sleeps - draw in the missing part of the Farore symbol by approaching it with a fully-charged sword, then trace the pattern with your Wii Remote. (Here's a hint: the missing part is a circle placed inside the two crescents. Check the symbol on the ground at the Viewing Platform for reference.)

5 - Dive into Lake Floria and follow the Parella elder to meet the Water Dragon.

You'll find the gate on the path you took to first reach the Kikwi elder. If you're having trouble find it, consult your map and look at the south edge of the explorable area for a spot leading off to an unknown area. It's just next to the waterfall. Once you reach the end of the ledge, dive off to fall into Lake Floria.

Unfortunately, you don't get much of an opportunity to explore the lake - the current rushes you downstream into a subterranean river. It'll dump you off in a small pond where you'll meet your first member of the squid-like Parella. She'll try to run away, but you can follow her pretty easily. After a short while she'll lead you to a wooden barrier that you can break with your spinning dash - shake the Nunchuk to trigger it.

She'll tell you about a recent attack against the Water Dragon conducted by Ghirahim and beseech your help. Continue following her down the river to head towards the Water Dragon's sacred chambers. Catch air bubbles when you get the chance to avoid drowning, and make sure to break any barriers you come across with a quick spin. Be careful, because spins consume a lot of air. Up ahead you'll find some Froaks. If you spin into them, they'll explode, but you'll take damage in the process if you strike them too directly. You can use them to destroy any debris you come across to uncover hidden Rupees.

One of the piles of debris hides a way forward. A nearby Parella will point out the way to you if you can't find it. Once you've cleared it, keep following your Parella guide deeper into the tunnels. Your next obstacle is a lot less precarious - it's a gate blocking the path, but you can use your spin dash to leap out of the water and over the gate. Another such obstacle shows up a little further down the way, but this time you can explore a little bit outside of the water to find a Goddess Cube on an overlooking ledge.

Continue to follow the Parella and you'll spill out into a room containing a massive fish enemy known as the Cranioc. To defeat it, spin dash into the scar on its head when it prepares to charge. With the enemy dealt with, the Parella guide will unlock the door to the Water Dragon's sanctum. You'll meet Her Excellence on the central platform. She's injured from her battle with the demons and needs sacred water to restore herself. You'll need to bring her a bottle of it if she's going to help you reach Farore's Flame.

Cranioc
CraniocCraniocs have strong rivalries with each other, and try to prove their superiority by attacking anything threatening in sight. They turn red with fury before they attack, so you'll know when it's coming. That's your cue to hit them with a spin dash attack.

Find out more at Zeldapedia: Cranioc.

6 - Recover the sacred water and bring it to the Water Dragon.

The sacred water you're looking for is at the Skyview Spring in Skyview Temple, so you'll need to head back there. Just ahead of the Water Dragon's chamber is an outdoor area with a Bird Statue you can use to return to the sky quickly if that's how you'd prefer to travel. Otherwise, make a right as soon as you exit the caves and push the log to create a shortcut back to this area from Faron Woods, and head through Deep Woods to the temple.

The temple itself is just as you remember it, but the enemies have shifted around a bit. For example, Quadro Babas now infest the area and Bokoblins are more plentiful throughout. The Mogmas seem to have decided to search for treasure here, and will help you track down the key you need to unlock the door at the end of the water-filled chamber. On your left as you head down the first staircase you'll find a spot surrounded by butterflies. Play your Harp here to activate the Goddess Wall, a mythical help mechanic that, if you charge your sword nearby, will generate whatever item you draw on the wall - hearts, Rupees, or even ammunition!

Continue down the stairs to the water-filled chamber and hang a right through that first door you passed through the first time you were here. Dive down into the water in this chamber and crawl through the small space at the bottom on the left - yes, you can still crawl underwater! Head up the passage to the left on the other side of the crawlspace and you'll see a small hole you can dig up with your Digging Mitts. A key will pop out! (You might remember this spot from your first trip here if you were attentive enough.)

The key will grant you access to the large central chamber. Staldras patrol the area, so deal with them if you need to. Otherwise, head through the shortcut to the boss door that you created earlier. You can pick off the Bokoblins across the gap using the Hook Beetle, then cross the tightrope to the (still unlocked) boss door and head inside.

Three Stalfos will greet you - that's right: three. They fight with the same strategies as the first one you faced, except this time there are obviously three coming at you at once. Use your shield liberally to break off their arms, but only if you're confident in your Shield Bashing abilities. Wouldn't want to break your shield in this fight! You can also use Bombs to achieve the same effect. Once you take them out, the door to Skyview Spring will open.

Fi's Dowsing ability will point you to the spot where you can collect Sacred Water. Once you've got your bottle-full, head back to the Water Dragon and sprinkle it on her and she'll open the way to the next dungeon: the Ancient Cistern.

Sacred Water
Sacred WaterSacred Water from the Skyview Spring will restore the Water Dragon to full health, and she'll open up the Ancient Cistern as thanks. One of the sacred flames awaits inside...
