• Nintendo is in trouble right now. Stocks continue to fall, negative E3 reaction continues, and bad Wii U news is releasing daily. With news of lagging online, limited memory, and confusion over the new console reaching the public constantly, Nintendo has a lot to prove. They need to sell a new console to the casual audience, attract the core gamer crowd, and convince everybody that the Wii U is a new system worth their money.

The Wii U is set to launch, but will it sell well? It all depends on price. Katsuya Eguchi has informed us on some news that can help us estimate a launch RRP for the new console.

“Well, considering the tech packed into the console and the GamePad, we’re considering a lot of options regarding price. But I don’t want you to misunderstand; we’re really not out to profit selling this hardware. That being said, I really don’t know this is something we would sell at a loss. We’d like to avoid taking a loss on the hardware, so we’re gonna be seriously considering how its priced.”

This makes a lot of sense. Nintendo is already losing money on the Nintendo 3DS, and Wii sales are lagging. The big N needs the Wii U to sell well, otherwise they’ll be taking yet another loss. As a Nintendo fan, I am buying a Wii U at launch, not only for the great games, but also to support my favorite company.
