Good news for those planning to get a Wii U at launch: both of the announced colors-black and white-will be available from the minute the console is released. It was formerly believed that the black variant would not be released until sometime after launch, just like what happened with the black Wii.
This is no rumor, either; Nintendo customer service rep Jay Dean has confirmed “that the Wii U will be released in both Black and White.” Outside of this, Dean had no new information to share, only saying that “I encourage you to keep checking our website’s ‘What’s New’ section (http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew) for the latest information.” As trivial as it may seem, launching in black could help the Wii U attract the hardcore audience it desires.
