Kotaku received a tip from an insider at an Australian retail store that the Wii U is going to be released on December 6th Down Under. On top of that, they are guaranteeing all pre-orders for the Wii U at EB Games will be met, which is a problem they ran into at the release of the Wii.
“We’ve just had an anonymous tip, from a local Australian retailer, that Nintendo’s upcoming home console the Wii U will be released in Australia on December 6. In addition, we’ve heard that — in the wake of massive shortages in 2006 when the original Wii first launched — Nintendo is guaranteeing that every pre-order of the console at EB will be met.”
The most recent rumors and inside speculation from GameStop has the Wii U coming out no later than Thanksgiving weekend, which is essentially a sure bet, placing the Australian release roughly two weeks later. Of course, this is still a rumor but for the sake of comparison, the Wii was release in Australia on December 7th. Nintendo still has no further comment on anything Wii U related at this juncture. Stay tuned as we naturally should be finding out things within the next 5 weeks.
