We now have an image of the latest Wii U controller design thanks to a QA tester at Traveler’s Tales Games. He uploaded the image at left to his Twitter account about an hour ago.
The biggest change we can see in the controller is the replacement of circle pads with analog sticks. Also, the start and select buttons have relocated from the bottom-center of the controller to the right side of the screen.
UPDATE: Looks like Nintendo didn’t want this information to get out until E3. The Twitter account and source image have now been deleted.
Here’s the latest controller:

And here’s the E3 model:

Now for a few thoughts about the design. I like that they moved the start and select buttons to an easily accessible position, but why didn’t they move the home button as well? They could have put it underneath the start and select buttons, or on the left of the controller across from those buttons. Then, the Wii U logo could be centered (where the home button was) and the controller wouldn’t look quite so awkward.
Also, notice the gray charging cable on the top left of the controller? It looks very similar to the 3DS charger to me; perhaps they are compatible?
How do you feel about the new design? What would you like changed?
