It’s been a year now since the PS Vita hit stores in Japan, and though the handheld has done averagely well for a new system, their sales are not competing with Nintendo’s own handheld’s income. At launch, the Vita had an amazing list of titles available to purchase, unlike the 3DS did at its own launch, but despite that, the Vita is having problems drawing in third party labels for their system.
“We’re having a more difficult time than we had anticipated in terms of getting support from third-party publishers, but that’s our job, We will continue to talk to development communities and publishing partners and tell them why Vita can provide a great experience for the IPs they have and I hope the Assassin’s Creed game will prove that.”
Sony has relied heavily on third party developers on past systems, so it seems strange that the Vita should be going unnoticed by them right now, but with the 3DS’ surging success in Japan with the XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2, Sony is going to need to step it up in the handheld market this holiday season.
