• Sakurai, the man who created the Smash series and is heading the present project, spoke up a bit on twitter today in response to the information yesterday that we would see some screenshots of the game at E3 this year. While he doesn’t divulge too much, any tidbits for Smash we can find we will gladly take. Here is what he had to say on twitter:

    • announcements like Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS would usually be accompanied by a trailer, but the team wanted to keep gamers patient while waiting for E3
    • this is why they put out just a limited announcement
    • Sakurai says E3 will come with a much better announcement
    • the plan is to show off both the Wii U and 3DS versions at E3

Iwata promised we would see screenshots of the game at E3 this year, but Sakurai is clearly hinting we are going to see so much more. Iwata potentially could have been underselling the guarantees because it’s probably not a for sure thing that Smash will be far enough to show much. Still, Sakurai’s plan at least is to have it ready to show off in both Wii U and 3DS form. Show off how? Well as he suggested they like to do reveals with trailers, so in addition to screenshots we could very well see a trailer. That’s always exciting since we usually get to see not just the updated visuals and combat, but new items and even new characters all together.

He states rather plainly his plan is to show off both versions of the game, so this could hint to there possibly being a demo and that development is moving along much quicker than anticipated. Of course, this is exactly why Nintendo is seeking outside help with their games, because they really want to get the whole process sped up. What do you think we’ll see at E3?
