Rumor: Ubisoft Developing Avengers: Battle for Earth

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for a while, you know that an amazing new Avengers movie hit theaters in the states yesterday and other global locales earlier. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to, as it’s blend of super-hero awesomeness and comedic relief are second to none. But I digress.A tie-in video game was in development for the film until its developer, THQ Studio Australia, was closed and the game was scrapped. This was probably for the best, as it probably would have been a lousy tie-in game that exactly followed the movie’s story and was rushed to be released with the film. Now, a domain name under Ubisoft’s servers has been identified to be avengersbattleforearth.com, which could suggest that Ubisoft is developing a game to either tie-in with the movie or tell a whole new story. Either way, it’ll still probably be better than whatever rush-job THQ was going to put on an Avengers game.
I don’t want this game to simply be Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Avenger Initiative. Don’t get me wrong, I somewhat enjoyed the Ultimate Alliance games, but I wanted more differences between characters. I want to feel like I am Iron Man, or the Hulk, or Thor, etc. I believe this would be best achieved with individualized control and camera systems for each character. Black Widow and Hawkeye should be FPSs. Iron Man should be a blend of FPS and flight simulation. Thor, Captain America, and the Hulk should be third-person brawlers with unique attacks. Fusion attacks should also make a return from Ultimate Alliance 2. (Spoiler)I saw one fusion attack briefly in the movie between Iron Man and Cap, but there should be multiple fusion moves for all of the characters. I want more of the Hulk hurling Cap through the air, Thor supercharging Iron Man with lightning, Black Widow stripping to motivate the rest of the team, etc. Ubisoft can make this game as amazing as the movie if they want to, and I definitely hope they do.
