September 13 2012 by Jesse Lillico

Nintendo has announced their own television, specifically designed for Wii U, called Nintendo TVii. The TV allows you to completely control it with the Gamepad, choosing what you want to watch, using the Gamepad to browse information on the internet on what you are watching, watch Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, and watch DVR content.

Favorites, TV, Movies Sports, and Search are the categories on the home menu of Nintendo TVii. It is a “personalized” experience. Popular shows are displayed, shows that your friends watch, shows that are trending, and you can explore your favorite challenges. Cast, IMDb and Wikipedia are all available on the Gamepad while you are watching. You can look at friends from Miiverse and Facebook who have favorited certain shows. You can view ratings for movies and TV shows, and you can watch trailers of movies/television shows on the Gamepad.

For sports watching, you can view team rankings, stats, players, scores, etc. Basically, Nintendo TVii mashes every streaming service into one. There is a built in-remote, and favorite TV channel icons are automatically added to your remote for easy access. While watching a program on TVii, events going on within the show are posted on the Gamepad, and while watching, you can comment, interact with others and share your opinions on the program, participate in polls, etc.
