A lot of Nintendo patents seem to be getting approved and/or revealed recently, mostly to sate our hunger for anything Wii U-related. However, the latest patent involves a method to direct tourists using a Nintendo DS system (and it would likely work with a 3DS too). The tech, conceived by Shigeru Miyamoto, works by sending infrared signals from a network to the DS, which in turn communicates with the network to light up floor directions and maps for the wayward tourist. The new tech also allows the user to set their own route throughout whatever it is they are visiting.
It may not pan out into anything, but if it did it would be really interesting. Being able to travel about the Smithsonian or Disney World with floor arrows seems very futuristic. And a Nintendo Theme Park/Museum/Other cool thing that only Miyamoto can conjure that makes use of this technology could be amazing.
What do you think of this new patent? What could it be used for, or will it even be used?
