• It’s been nearly 17 years since the West was able to get their hands on Earthbound and since, we’ve never been given another installment in the franchise, granted only two other games really exist in the series.

It seems whenever fans are given a glimmer of hope they are shot down by extended durations of no new information, but there might be some hope for the Earthbound faithful out there. Speaking with Kotaku writer Stephen Totilo, Satoru Iwata noted the he and Mr. Itoi, “were discussing that there are huge fans from Western countries for the Mother series.”

It’s good to know though that Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about its loyal Earthbound fans, but whether or not it will lead to anything remains unknown as this could be interpreted in a number of ways.

ST: I would be remiss in not telling you that some of my writers would like to play another Advance Wars and they would someday like to play Mother 3 in America… [Note: Iwata writes something down] … Whenever I ask Reggie about Mother 3, he says, ‘ask Mr. Iwata.’”

Iwata: [in English]: “Just yesterday, before I left from Japan, I met with Mr. Itoi, who is the creator of the Earthbound series. [laughs]”

ST: “Oh, I know. Are we ever going to get it?”

Iwata: “And, yeah, accidentally we were discussing that there are huge fans from Western countries for the Mother series [laughs].

ST: “So, someday? Someday?” [I stand up to shake his hand] Iwata: “[laughs] Thank you. Great to see you!”
