Nintendo has just revealed some interesting tidbits about New Super Mario Bros. 2 from the Nintendo Direct conference. First off, there is a new game mode called Coin Rush, where players try to rack up as many coins as possible, and can send their record to other players via StreetPass. Also, the game features full two-player co-op, becoming the first handheld Mario game to do so.Now, let’s get to the real meat of the news. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be among the first 3DS titles to offer downloadable content (it was not specified what the price may be). Players will be able to download additional stages for the Coin Rush mode. The system for distribution and the levels themselves have not been created yet, and will not be until after the game’s launch, so expect more news about New Super Mario Bros. 2‘s DLC later on.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 launches alongside the Nintendo 3DS XL on August 19th.
