• Suffice to say, I was already on the toilet when this trailer came around. This Nintendo Direct put me through several bursts of surprise pants-soiling, and I had taken precautions to make sure my pants were not further tarnished throughout the Zelda news. Gentlemen, when this trailer began to play, I gained airtime from the force of my rectal expulsion. I was hoping for a reveal from Monolith throughout the whole direct, but as the Zelda news hit us I figured that was all they were going to show. Zelda‘s huge news, after all, and a great way to close a presentation. Just as I was about to click away, however, Iwata pleasured me in ways real people could never do.

It looks a lot like Xenoblade—but better. We don’t have a title yet, but if Amazon put up a listing for “New Monolith Soft game” I would preorder it now. One of my only complaints about Xenoblade was that I felt the Wii’s lack of power held it back graphically, making it a bit of an eyesore at times. But God, when Monolith Soft gets a powerful console…I mean, just look at it! It really does seem to share a lot of elements of their previous title; the open world exploration, the MMO-ish combat system, the way the landscape is laid out. There are notable differences, though; mostly that it seems the main character is using more than one type of weapon. This points towards classes and character customization working seperately than Xenoblade. While I’m a fan of the way Xenoblade set up its character growth, I have no qualms with changing it up a bit. Another notable difference is the mechs. Anybody reminded of Xenogears?

Near the end of the trailer, a blond-haired boy is briefly shown in close-up; looks an awful lot like an updated, HD Shulk, doesn’t it? That definitely means it’s a possibility this game is a sequel. The trailer then ends with a red X splashed across the black screen, but looking at the team developing this game, it’s 99.9% clear the game’s title is going to start with an X. I will be speculating on this like mad for a long while. Care to join me? Leave your speculations, title predictions, and fanboyish squeals below!
