When Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition was shown off at E3, many criticized it for using the Wii U Gamepad not as an enhancement, but as a gimmick. Elements like manually controlling the Batarang were met with scorns of disapproval by players. While that Batman game might use the controller in odd ways, we now know that the other Wii U game featuring the Dark Knight, Injustice: Gods Among Us, will not. Game director and legendary developer Ed Boon had this to say:
“We’re obviously going to have some conversation about the Wii U’s unique controller and how to use it in a fighting game that’s not just a gimmick. I don’t want to just have a touchscreen that shows all the secret moves and you just press them to fire them off.” That issue in particular was raised with some 3DS fighting games, so it’s great to see that Boon is learning from the mistakes of other developers.
