• IGN has unveiled their latest (and presumably final) Top 25 Wii Games list, replete with titles from 2011 and 2012 (including The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Xenoblade Chronicles).

In last year’s list, the top prize went to Super Mario Galaxy 2.  Has this placing changed in this nice chunk of time?  Out of all the games in the Wii’s library, what did IGN pick above all the others to define as the greatest Wii game of all time?

Here’s the top 10 (the full list can be found on the link in the first sentence of this post):

    • 10) The Last Story
    • 9) Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: All-Stars
    • 8) New Super Mario Bros. Wii
    • 7) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    • 6) Donkey Kong Country Returns
    • 5) Super Mario Galaxy
    • 4) Metroid Prime Trilogy
    • 3) Super Smash Bros. Brawl
    • 2) Super Mario Galaxy 2
    • 1) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Yes, according to IGN the great Super Mario Galaxy 2 throne has been usurped by none other than The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  It’s not too surprising a development given that IGN’s Nintendo staff hailed Skyward Sword as the greatest Zelda game of all time in their review.

Skyward Sword also embraced the Wii far more than Super Mario Galaxy 2.  While Galaxy 2 was a great game, it could’ve easily existed on another system - whereas Skyward Sword was built from the ground up as the final say on core gaming utilizing motion control.  It’s much more of a fitting title for the legacy of the Wii.

What do you think about this list?  What would you have changed?  Comment away!
