There are just a few tidbits we have left to clean up from yesterdays Nintendo Direct, and among those tidbits comes this lovely screenshot above, which hints heavily at Dual GamePad support. This is actually some rather big news as this is the first suggestion of the functionality we have actually see on the console itself. It also could indicate that GamePads themselves will go on sale sans a console later this year. Big news indeed. Of course, in all of this Virtual Console talk we haven’t even touched upon the fact that any controller and peripheal created for the Wii on up is 100% compatible.
In fact, you can actually map buttons from the NES and SNES controller to whatever you want on the GamePad, Wii Mote, Classic Controller, and so forth. Thus, the controls are not only 100% modifiable for your pleasure, you can also use virtually any possible controller you want for a Nintendo platform. No GCN controller support is for rather obvious reasons (no ports to plug it in… duh!). Still, when I get all this news my mind keeps jumping back to the above image. Dual GamePads folks. Imagine the possibilities.
