Bowser Voted Greatest Game Villain for Guinness World Records, Ganon in Top 5

After voting by over 5,000 people came to an end, Guinness World Records announced that Bowser, of the Mario series, has been voted the greatest gaming villain of all time. The battle for the top spot was very close; runner-up GlaDOS, of the Portal series, lost by only a small fraction of the vote. After that, surprisingly enough, is the incarnation of the Joker from the Batman: Arkham series. Personally, I didn’t expect a character that didn’t originate from a video game to get that high. Rounding out the top 5 are Ganon, of The Legend of Zelda, and the player’s Rival, often known as Blue or Gary Oak, from Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. Ganon being this high shows that the Zelda series is still relevant today.Outside of the top 5, the list has some very interesting choices. The Borgias from Assassin’s Creed II are as high as 7th, Hades from the Kid Icarus series narrowly made it into the top 50, and Inky was chosen to represent the ghosts from Pac-Man.
One thing that’s apparent is the Nintendo love. Nintendo is the only company to have multiple villains in the top 10, all of which are in the top 5. The villainous version of Donkey Kong made it at 14th, N and Team Rocket from Pokemon were ranked at 20th and 26th, respectively, Ghirahim from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword came in at 35th, and Tabuu from Super Smash Bros. Brawl came in at 39th.
