| The Legend of Zelda Cartoon Series |

The Legend of Zelda TV Series was a 13 episode show that aired in 1989. Each episode had an average running time of 15 minutes.
The series never reached notable critical success and was canceled along with the Super Mario Bros. Super Show after 13 aired episodes.
Link's legendary catchphrase
"Well excuuuuuuse meee princess!" is still used sarcastically among the Zelda community, and is what the series is most remembered for.
The show was made during the height of Nintendo's commercial success in North America and is seen as somewhat cheap and silly by a good majority of Zelda fans. The storyline of the show is loosely based around the first Zelda game, but can not be seen as storyline canon due to the fact that the creators of the show had no connection to the team that made the original video game.

Just like video games in the late 80's, the show was aimed at younger audiences. The basic story in most of the episodes consisted of Ganon attempting to conquer Hyrule by capturing Princess Zelda, the Triforce of Wisdom or both. Link tries to convince Zelda to give him a kiss, but is repeatedly turned down or interrupted, which usually results in clumsy slapstick comedy and the before mentioned catchphrase.
All of the episodes were originally featured as a part of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, but have since been released separately on VHS and DVD. After the show was canceled the two main characters Link and Zelda made guest appearances in four episodes of Captain N the Game Master with their original voice actors Jonathan Potts and Cyndy Preston.
