God Bless the people that make and develop our favorite video games, but they do try and suck you dry for every last penny you have. To anyone unfamiliar with what a Game of the Year Edition of a video game is, it’s essentially a re-release of the game with any additional DLC packaged with it. Often, if I know a game is going to have several batches of DLC, I’ll try and wait it out instead if buying the game and a Season Pass, because every penny matters.

Nintendo is somewhat new to the whole DLC train, as they didn’t really start doing it until the Wii U era, so they haven’t had a GotY Edition of any their titles. At least, not yet. Looking at their lineup, it seems to make sense that if they were to start this trend, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be a good place to start.

Do you guys think that’s a possibility? To see a version of Breath of the Wild come out in a few the packaged with the Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad? Or do you hope Nintendo stays away from that kind of stuff? Let us know in the comments below!

Hmm, not sure… it’s hard to get inside the mind of Nintendo.

I think it will be released either late nov. or early dec.

If it is Switch exclusive, then yes. A more optimized version would be greatly appreciated. Also it would be great for those who want the DLC but don’t want to pay an extra $20 for the game.

Hyrule Warriors legends had all of the original’s DLC when it released, same with Mario Kart 8 DX. Zelda might do the same, but we will see.

Yeah, but those aren’t GOTY editions, but rather re-releases.

Which game had the hottest version of Link? I think TP is a real hunk, but what do you guys think?

    • BotW is the hottest TP isn’t even close

      • Jebradiah Drake

BotW Link seemed a little bland to me honestly. Also a bit too young looking, ironic considering he’s probably the older.

        • LuigiGameRocker

He’s OVER 100 YEARS OLD, what do you mean “probably”?

          • Jebradiah Drake

I mean have we ever seen a birth certificate on any other Link? And Hero’s Shade is probably a bit older than a hundred lol

          • LuigiGameRocker

Wha… I thought we were talking about Twilight Princess Link?

    • Vados

BotW Link has by far the best looking in-game model imo.
In terms of official artwork, I think Skyward Sword Link looks best.

But in general, Akira Himekawa TP Manga Link just looks ridiculously good.

I don’t know, it’s hard to say what sorts of “mainstream” business practices Nintendo have picked up. They’ve joined the toys-to-life fad, and if Xenoblade 2 is any proof they’re becoming increasily DLC-happy, yet they still kept some convoluted practices like friend codes, that bizarre app for Splatoon voice-chat etc.

Would they do GOTY editions of their games, like many “mainstream” studios, or would they keep BoTW at it’s current “total” price (DLC included) for a long time, like they’re used to doing?
Things like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe might be proof that they’re starting to do definitive editions, yet at the same time isn’t the Switch the sole reason MK8D exists? It’s not like they released it for the WiiU.

Maybe there’ll be a version of BoTW with everything included, but maybe it could be just as a port for Nintendo’s future console or something. We have no way to know wether they’ll do it until they start doing it.

I’m still crossing my fingers that they turn back from the DLC a little bit, but I doubt they’re gonna put out a GotY version. Most people who were going to buy this already have, barring those who don’t have a Switch yet. Even then, I can’t imagine a GotY edition selling well, seeing how expansive the non-DLC version already is. They might surprise me, but I think the most we’re gonna see is a DLC pack that sells them all together for a discounted price.

  • I really wish a definitive version came out before the year ends.

  • I honestly don’t think they will, and if they did, it wouldn’t really make sense to me. By now, the people who really play Zelda will already have the game AND DLC. I mean, I got a Switch specifically for Zelda, and got the DLC mostly because I thought “Why not?!” And I seriously wouldn’t consider myself a gamer so I just can’t imagine a GofY edition/release selling well.

Also, Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS has LOTS of DLC and there has never been a rerelease/GotY edition for FE. The lasted two FE game on 3DS also has a whole lot of DLC (with the crazy price of €45 in Europe – same price of full gam) I just don’t see Game of the Year editions happing for Nintendo.

Well…BotW has to win GotY first. Not that I have any doubts. It’s just that Odyssey just came out, and there’s a bunch of other games competing for GotY…it’s gonna be a tough award to win this year.

  • William Dean Luke

it doesn’t deserve game of the year…I’ve never been so disappointed in a title…Lots of bells and whistles…few enemy types…sparsely populated overworld, no dungeons, just “shrines” and “Divine Beasts”…lame…ass.

  • burchdude65

Odyssey exists, so I don’t think BotW will win many GotY awards.
