Welcome to the Cave of Trials. The premise is simple: Every week, two characters from The Legend of Zelda series will duke it out for the Zelda Informer Championship. Whoever has more votes at the end of the week, wins. This is strictly a popularity contest, not who you think would win in a fight; so vote for who you like better! The winner will then go on next week to defend the title against a new challenger, as decided by you guys! That’s right, leave a name in the comments of who you want to see step up next and the character with the most votes will get their chance to dethrone the champion next week! Be warned though – a character only has one shot, so choose wisely. If a champion is successful in defending their title for six weeks in a row, that champion will be retired and the title declared vacant!

Hello, and welcome back!

Last week, we saw Link and Vaati battle it out for the vacant Zelda Informer Championship, and while Vaati is certainly an intimidating villain, he was no match for the Hero of Hyrule. Link was victorious with a staggering 81% of the vote, sending a message to all future challengers that he is indeed ‘The Face That Runs The Place’.

Stepping up to answer the call this week is the disheveled, dishonest pirate captain, Linebeck! Hailing from the controversial Phantom Hourglass, can Linebeck’s wily charm and roguish ways be enough to slow down the Champion? Or will Link’s path of destruction continue? Only you can answer that! Don’t forget to vote in the comments for who you’d like to see challenge the Champion next week!

Cave of Trials: Week Two

  • Link (c) (66%, 91 Votes)
  • Linebeck (34%, 47 Votes)

Total Voters: 138

You have to question the wisdom of starting off with Link for this feature. Would be more interesting to have seen a lot more less popular equals (e.g. side or one-off characters) go head-to-head first, as it would be more of a contest each week. How many weeks will Link win going away?

yeah it kinda sucks to see these characters get blown out of the water immediately by someone who doesnt have a whole lot of character to begin with, not that that’s anything against link, but theres a reason the guy doesn’t talk too much.

    • Maybe that’s the idea. Keep Link in the running from the beginning, mete out some obviously subpar side characters while voters get tiredness of seeing Link conquer week after week. Then hit us with Zelda and Midna, and whoever else actually stands a chance.

But they retire characters who win 6 weeks in a row

We wanted to ensure that the contest had a recognizable figure to start with. You guys can vote for whoever you’d like to step up and challenge him!

Maybe Zelda vs link would actually be a contest
