Welcome to the Cave of Trials. The premise is simple: Every week, two characters from The Legend of Zelda series will duke it out for the Zelda Informer Championship. Whoever has more votes at the end of the week, wins. This is strictly a popularity contest, not who you think would win in a fight; so vote for who you like better! The winner will then go on next week to defend the title against a new challenger, as decided by you guys! That’s right, leave a name in the comments of who you want to see step up next and the character with the most votes will get their chance to dethrone the champion next week! Be warned though – a character only has one shot, so choose wisely. If a champion is successful in defending their title for six weeks in a row, that champion will be retired and the title declared vacant!

This week, we step back into the Cave as one of Link’s oldest foes tries to unseat him as Champion.

Although Linebeck put up a valiant fight, in the end, the roguish pirate couldn’t overcome the juggernaut known as Link. The Hero of Hyrule disposed of him and continued his run of dominance, proving once again that, for now anyways, this is his yard.

Stepping up this week to cast a shadow over Link’s Championship reign is Agahnim, the dark wizard who first terrorized Hyrule in 1991’s A Link To The Past. A being that carries a certain darkness around within him, will Agahnim’s evil be enough to finally put the Hero down for the count? Or will Link rise up yet again and conquer darkness? Only you can decide! And remember, VOTE on who you would like to see be the challenger next week! YOU have the power!

Good we’re getting the obvious pick out of the way…but it’s just being a massacre for the small fires that deserve more love.

    • Andy Spiteri

      I voted Vaati. Poor guy.

      • Christian Beach

I voted Linebeck on the last one. The guy is so underrated!

  • BlackRayquaza98

I don’t remember death mountain looking quite like that lol

  • dark.isatari

    Slightly surprised Link beat Linebeck.
Agahnim deserves credit for being the first characterized non-Ganon antagonist, but he also started the whole “Ganon switcheroo” the series leaned too much into later on! XD

    • Devon Orme

      Agahnim was Ganon in disguise.
Or, a fragment of Ganon that escaped the Dark World.

  • Christian Beach

Definitely Agahnim. He’s one of my favorite non-Ganon villains.

    • Logan Minnis

      Agahnim is Ganon…

      • Christian Beach

        …oh.

Perhaps it’s time I finished A Link to the Past, then.

  • Jebradiah Drake

Random question, is Ghirahim somehow named after Agahnim?

    • Doug Muell

I strongly believe so. They also both play the role of the main antagonist causing all the trouble to begin with before summoning the real enemy.

  • Sean Michael-Patrick Thompson

It seems unfair to pick a random character every week juat to hace them inevitably crushed by Link. Is this just going to go on until Link is on top or gets defeated because of Groose loving hipsters? Either way, Agahnim is totally an underrated villain, and If I’d love to see him return. Vote cast.

From the rules at the beginning – If a champion is successful in defending their title for six weeks
in a row, that champion will be retired and the title declared vacant!

If Link is successful 3 more times, he will be retired. And it’s not a random character – you guys pick the next challenger!

I have voted against link every time. Sorry bud!
