Keep in mind these are just rumors, and are just as likely to be false as they are true. However, 2ch has a history of nailing many rumors right on the head, as was previously explained in January's Rumor Mill. Of course, not everything they say is true... but if they happen to be right about all of the current rumors, I swear I might be willing to father all of their children. So without any more delay, here is what was uncovered:
- Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
- Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
- There will be a playable demo at E3.
- Time travel does occur and it happens through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
- Link's hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
- There will be several "Majora's Mask" esque sidequests.
- Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
- The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
- The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
- Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it's unique style.
- The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
- There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
- There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
- The game will feature significant portions of flight.
So there you have it. This information was provided to us via email, and as such I cannot confirm the full credibility of the source. However, based on what the previous rumors were and what has been said in interviews in the last year, a lot of it seems highly plausible. We are currently digging for the exact quotes so we can get some re-translations to confirm. Are you excited yet? Zelda Wii gets officially announced on June 15th, 2010.
Head over to the official forum thread to discuss these rumors!
We also invite you to join our chat room.
On a side note, could this be the new main weapon?
(The above image is in no way affiliated with the rumors contained in this news article. It was a mock up of potential item concept created in-staff at Zelda Informer)

No matter how much you might trust us, please remember that these are RUMORS. We cannot confirm them 100% (Although I am 95% sure on some of them).
So please do take them all with a grain of salt.
I will say, personally I do think there is some truth to some of these rumors. A crossbow? Only makes sense given LCT and the fact Eiji wanted to make a LCT 2. There was a minor flight mechanic in TP, and Eiji mentioned flight... last year?
Will be very interesting in 18 days when we find out whats really going on!
I brightened your image for you. Not entirely sure why that image is so dark but eh. Looks to me like twilight princess with a photoshopped staff, hook thing?
Anyway here's the image:

Taking it with a grain of salt, but it's relatively plausible, and most of it sounds good :)
* Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
Why? the WM+ works so well with a bow...
* Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
* There will be a playable demo at E3.
YEY! That gives the game the best ammount of hype and to us the possibility to play the game this year!
* Time travel does occur and it happens through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
* Link's hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
* There will be several "Majora's Mask" esque sidequests.
* Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
It helps the game, but i could play it without this
* The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
I would prefer more time on the field, but that can still happen
* The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
Ok. I like the name
* Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it's unique style.
This is really great news
* The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
* There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
* There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
If the past point is true, then this is great too
* The game will feature significant portions of flight.
Aonuma's son strikes again
Wow, this is very interesting. Sounds like an awesome game to me!
Crossbow? Pleeease... DON'T do it!
Finished? H'm... since they are going to show us MAANY things about the game in E3, so, I think this can be, in fact, true
Demo? Niiice!
Time travel? Really nice!! But I want the ocarina of Time, not a blade... :)
Big hometown? Awesome!
Lots of sidequests just like Majoras Mask!?? The BEST rumor until now!! :D :D
Character Interaction? So, is Zelda Wii goingo to be a Ocarina of Time + Majora's Mask mix? Niiice!!
Dungeon-field-dungeon..... strange...
Adelle? I liked it...
Anyway, it's a good thing to think about!
pessoa- "Aonuma's son strikes again".
bwahahaha!!! *dies of laughter*
If now Vaati is revealed to be the main antagonist, then it is perfect to me.
Actually about that... nah, just wait for part 3...
Of course I'm just kidding to hype you up... Don't take me seriously. :D
Vaati returns? That would be wicked, lol.
*There will be a playable demo at E3.
This is great news because I will get to play it this year.
As for the added flight, I love the idea if it gives me some more freedom. I liked, but didn't love, the linear flight sections in Twilight Princess.
I am extremely excited about all this news. I'm on the fence about flight and I hope there isn't too much less items.
Other than that, if these rumors turn out to be true....I will be extremely pleased.
I will just say that, if these rumors are true, then this could easily turn out to be one of the best games in the series. As for Vaati, he's cool, but a new villain could be even cooler. Whatever happens, I cannot wait for E3.
And guys remember - if you like it, put a Digg on it. Look how lonely that Digg button is up there...
I just read the entirety of 2ch's latest Zelda General thread and I didn't find anything of the sort. It all sounds very nice, but it's definitely NOT on 2ch.
* "Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow"
Well I do like the Bow better but I won't be all sad with a crossbow.
* "Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
* There will be a playable demo at E3.
* Time travel does occur and it happens"
BETTER BE TRUE!!!
through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
A blade?...I like sword better but ether way I will still love the gameplay:)
* Link's hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
* There will be several "Majora's Mask" esque sidequests.
* Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
YES WE NEED THIS!!!
* The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
If this is true I will still spend LOT'S of time outside the Dungeons/Temples
* The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
I remember this name from a few months back...I LOVE IT
* Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it's unique style.
YES!!!!
* The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
Interesting
* There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
I will only like this only if the items are used more frequently.
* There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
Interesting
* The game will feature significant portions of flight.
pessoa- "Aonuma's son strikes again".
This...LOL XD
looks like the Oracle games to me. see the similarities?
What I like about this info is that it doesn't contradict anything in the January rumor post. Rather, it complements and almost corroborates it.
Nothing in this rumor post (or the January one) sounds outrageous at all. It's got me excited.
Flight! You guys remember Wii Sports Resort dogfights? That stuff was awesome. Exploring in the air would be sick. Maybe Link will get one of those staffs like Aang has from Avatar: The Last Airbender? I think that would be great :)
•The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
Is anyone else worried about this? Everything else sounds either exciting or interesting, but this one thing is worrying me greatly. I fear for the overworld =(
Actually, from what I personally could gather is that there will be MORE overworld sections and that the game will not be as "rigidly" structured... A in, you might get into a temple, finish it halfway, then go do something else, then come and finish the temple.
However, not in the way PH did it, which was again very strict Temple-Overworld-Dungeon-Temple-Overworld-Dungeon etc.
The thing that I mean is the original LoZ style where you can access many many various locations but progress in only a select few (or select one).
Oh my god! i can´t believe it! Even if only half of those rumors are true than this is going to obliterate the competition! This has to be the greatest Zelda game of all time and it will be!!
Sounds good... Which might be reason to disbelieve.
Anyway, there is no reason to call fake or true, considering there are not many days left now.
However, if we see the E3 reveal actually confirming enough of the OTHER leaked points from 2chan, then we might say that the rest of the points are true as well.
Best believe there will be lots of trailer and demo sleuthing.
I don't like reading rumors because they might be true, then it'll spoil the surprise D:
I love these rumors except for the crossbow one. I wanted BOTH the crossbow and bow to be on this game. and what other sword can link time travel with? the Phantom sword?
i like the idea of the two dungeons back to back sounds cool!
I dont understand the dongeon part : •The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
I can understand them all exept for that one :S
(I,m french :) )
Check a few comments above, I tried to clarify it as best as I could... Wouldn't know any more details without Nate being around. =) But yes, that point is written a bit dodgy.
* Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
- I guess it wouldn't be WiiSportsResort Archery controls then. Fine with me.
* Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
- Could be possible.
* There will be a playable demo at E3.
- I sure hope so. I want to see gameplay.
* Time travel does occur and it happens through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
- Could be intersting, especially if the times were really unique. Future/steampunk Hyrule anyone?
* Link's hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
- This could be a good thing, as long as bigger doesn't just mean that the location will be bigger. It needs to actually have stuff in it.
* There will be several "Majora's Mask" esque sidequests.
- Another good thing
* Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
- Even more great 'news'
* The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
- Dungeon to dungeon? Unless that means you do something in the field and then have to do 2 dungeons in your own order, than please, don't let this be true.
* The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
- Works for me. If indeed she isn't the master sword, and the master sword is not in the game, then I'm going to guess that she's somehow involved with the creators of the blade, who would have to be a powerful race, connected to the temple of time, which would result in the time travel.
* Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it's unique style.
- We'll see
* The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
- Good. Cut out the silly item weapons (spinner, ball and chain, I'm talking to you).
* There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
- Less items is good. More frequent use is good.
* There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
- Could be interesting. Even if he were in the future, I doubt it would be a gun, as that would be a little too much like the crossbow.
* The game will feature significant portions of flight.
- 'Portions' of flight sounds like the linear flight stuff we see in TP and SMG2. No bueno. If they want to make flight a big thing, it should be in the likes of Epona.
@Realm
I'm worried about that one. Kind of sounds like the game is still just going to be another linear dungeone fest. If this ends up being the case, we should start a petition to change the director for the Zelda series. This will be Aonuma's 5th Zelda. If he doesn't get it right on this one, I don't think he ever will.
@Xx7
A bow AND a crossbow? That's kind of like having a bow and a slingshot. It's really not that great.
@Kishin
If that's true, that this is sounding more and more like this started on ZI. I have yet to see it reported to anyone else. Most of this does sound too good to be true.
A crossbow? Yeah that does make sense. I wouldn't be surprised if they incorporated that "machine gun" thing like in Link's Crossbow Training. Might be pretty interesting actually.
1. Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
-No big change- it's practically the same weapon, in game. All of a crossbow's typical advantages over bows are made up for by Link's supernatural draw speed and accuracy, anyway.
2. Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
-Well, duh. It's a 2010 release in Japan.
3. There will be a playable demo at E3.
-Duh, again.
4. Time travel does occur and it happens through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
-Eh, I'm hoping this isn't the case- the Master Sword could stand to see some real backstory and significance one of these days.
5. Link’s hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
-Well, it better- Zelda towns have been pretty dang small. The fact that there's supposedly a "home town" likely means a new Link, if this is true.
6. There will be several “Majora’s Mask” esque sidequests.
-Well, several seems a bit small. MM had a wide variety of sidequests that varied in length, so this isn't very specific.
7. Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
-Dialogue trees? Talking Link? Character interaction sounds iffy if you've got the usual silent protagonist.
8. The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
-Um. We've already heard that they're mixing up progression (STOP IT! DON'T! IT'S BEEN PERFECTLY GOOD FOR TWENTY YEARS!), but two dungeons in a row? No, that's stupid, and it was stupid when they did it for the whole game in ST (The train doesn't count).
9. The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
-Now, this is downright false- the Aderu rumors from 2009 were explicitly debunked as a hoax, so Nintendo actually taking some 2chan dork's musings as a plot point is just silly.
10. Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it’s unique style.
-Fluent? You mean fluid? And yeah, Miyamoto says he's really happy with the sword controls, so hopefully we've got something nice on our hands.
11. The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
-NO NO NO NO NO DON'T BE STUPID IT'S FREAKING ZELDA. It's about exploration and puzzles and adventure, not Red Steel. Give me a break.
12. There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
-You mean fewer, and that seems to be the route the DS games have gone. A stupid, stupid route. A route in which the gameplay doesn't change for long chunks of the game and every puzzle has to be totally formulaic.
13. There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
-I don't know about another main weapon, but this could be plausible- we've already seen the ball and chain and the hammers.
14. The game will feature significant portions of flight.
-Huh. Um, okay, maybe. I don't really think they'll be focusing on this- when it was brought up to Aonuma, he seemed a little surprised, talking about the future, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.
@TVT
Link is not a silent protagonist. Gordon Freeman (Half Life) is. With Link, he just doesn't have all his dialogue given to us. It's to let the player think what he would say. In Wind Waker though, he would say 'come on!' from time to time. You also get basic dialogue choices'. Expanding the dialogue choices, and not so much the dialogue, would be a good idea.
No, the dungeon-field-dungeon formula hasn't been perfectly good for the last 20 years, at least, not the way it's been. They seem to have got negative feedback, otherwise they probably wouldn't touch it.
I don't remeber the 2010 Aderu rumours (I don't know of anything before 2010 that mentiones it) being debunked. If you could provide a link on that, it would be much appreciated, as this would lay to rest not just these rumours, but pretty much all rumours that people are still going with.
"The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle."
OMG THAT'S MY SISTER'S NAME! Spelled exactly like that!
The crossbow is no big surprise, considering they released the Link's Crossbow Training minigame or whatever it was.
I've been hoping for a spear or some kind of polearm since Twilight Princess! I hope there's a jousting minigame... I've been hoping for that since they raved about how awesome horseback combat was supposed to be in TP... :D I hope the weapon for an alternative to the sword at the very least is true.
Bet they're gonna offer a bundle with the new black Wii--I've been waiting for THAT to come out since the Wii was called the Revolution...
Sounds like a kick... great game. ..Would be dissapointed if most of it turned out to be mere rumors.
Funny thing about unrelated picture, thought about having Link use a lance today as I was watching a horse show, and there was a demonstration involving lances.
And flying... Had a dream about that before the rumors even came out, before EP Daily even talked about the possibility.
Except my dream made no sense.
Well, Nintendo has already confirmed that there would be a playable demo at E3. I wonder how 'unique' the combat will be. I was expecting something like Red Steel to be honest. I'm also wondering about the flying portions. It could mean that IT'LL TAKE PLACE IN TEH FUTURE AND HAVE HOVERBOARDZ OH YEAH. But it'll probably just be some gay magical bird.
I think I have to call fake on this one.
Zelda Informer is the only place to have got the email. No one else seems to have heard about these, except through Zelda Informer.
The flying aspect could be taken from Windwaker's deku leaf which used magic power to help float/fly through the air. That or some sort of dragon/bird as we've seen in TP. I enjoyed controlling the seaguls in WW too.
Here's a better version of the picture above. Useless but just so you can see better.
http://i48.tinypic.com/34hjol1.png
Man I don't care WHAT'S in it. Nothing could make me more excited for this game.
This is probably 100% fabrciated, before every E3 it seems we get this sort of news on Nintendo, Nintendo fanboys just eat it up.
@ hazz
I knew I loved you for some reason.
Apparently the_Predator can vouch for some of this stuff... At least that'what he said.
He also said he has no 'real' source. Whatever that's supposed to mean...
Alright, let me "excuse" my good friend "Pred".
We have absolutely zero evidence of these rumors being true. I received an email tip a few days ago and decided that the rumors seemed plausable enough to me to run with them. The rumors seems to fit nicely with the previous ones, and a lot of them make sense given interviews with the developers.
Now, if your looking for "credibility" - as someone already commented (kirshin) above, these rumors were not present on anything recent at 2ch. This means either the person who emailed us is pulling our leg, or he wished to not divulge his real source.
As I stated many time sin this post, we are not saying these rumors are true, what we are saying is they are fun to think about. Pred is just enjoying himself too much. What he means by vouch is he could present a reasonable argument on why each point may be true, not that they actually are.
...But how did he get spirit tracks so early?
Pred has connections in the gaming industry, thats about all we can say about it, but they are not such major connecitons that he can confirm stuff. Just now and then he gets perks. Pre release games, access to betas and such, etc. Nothing overly major.
On a side note, Nintendo DID send Zelda Informer a prerelease copy of Spirit Tracks. I know, because it's the version I am still playing to this day. :)
I see...
well, in that case, most of this is still had a slim chance of being true, which I hope is the case with that dungeon stuff, because that sounds like a terrible idea.
Man, zelda informer is the best source so far...
"There will be less items"
Is the difference between fewer and less that difficult to grasp?
Remember guys! If you like it, put a digg on it! You can log in with your facebook account so no registration necessary.
@Grammar Buddha
Not sure what you're trying to say.
Oh, has anyone else heard about that earlier set of rumours from 2ch being debunked? Someone said it was, but I haven't heard anything about that.
What tools did you use to make this picture?
(please don't hate on me for this)
Okay,I admit that I really like Link's Crossbow Training *flinches* and I think that a crossbow instead of a bow and arrow is an interesting change. After all, if I wanted to play a Zelda game that stuck to the traditional style and content, I would play Ocarina of Time again. Great game, but it's not the new Zelda game everyone is talking about.
If this is true, than this will be the "BEST" Zelda Game ever
I don't know about anyone else, but it almost seems to the most part like the developers of this game have read Malstrom's articles about the Zelda series and somewhat followed them, what with the new combat ideas, the greater focus on sword use and dungeon/field interaction being changed.
But a focus on flight in any part? Why do I get the feeling this will be extremely divisive in the Legend of Zelda community in the same way as sailing and trains?
@ArynCrinn
Grammar Buddha is pointing out that "less" is not the correct word. If you're talking about something that there can be a number of, such as items (2 items, 3 items, etc), you use "fewer". "Less" is for water or something of the like that you cannot count.
@Grammar Buddha
Sadly, I guess the answer to your question is "yes".
Here's a usage guide:
Even though less has been used before plural nouns (less words; less men) since the time of King Alfred, many modern usage guides say that only fewer can be used in such contexts. Less, they say, should modify singular mass nouns (less sugar; less money) and singular abstract nouns (less honesty; less love). It should modify plural nouns only when they suggest combination into a unit, group, or aggregation: less than $50 (a sum of money); less than three miles (a unit of distance). With plural nouns specifying individuals or readily distinguishable units, the guides say that fewer is the only proper choice: fewer words; fewer men; no fewer than 31 of the 50 states.
Modern standard English practice does not reflect this distinction. When followed by than, less occurs at least as often as fewer in modifying plural nouns that are not units or groups, and the use of less in this construction is increasing in all varieties of English: less than eight million people; no less than 31 of the 50 states. When not followed by than, fewer is more frequent only in formal written English, and in this construction also the use of less is increasing: This year we have had less crimes, less accidents, and less fires than in any of the last five years.
...
This is why I had no interest in studying english beyond high school. Too many pointless rules, and it changes too much.
wow alll these rumors seem something kishimoto wouldnt do
so i believe these rumors are all fake
Kishimoto? What?
You mean Miyamoto right?
Kishimoto is the Naruto guy.
And most of them are things that have been done before.
Any one with any ideas about what the secondary weapon might be? Assuming these rumours are true, we would assume that it would lend itself well to the WM+. So..... I've heard Spear, Axe and Hammer. Any ideas?
Also, items to return? I'm voting for the clawshot, it was so freaking awesome and versatile.
Hurm, well!
I am very eager to see how true or untrue these rumors are come E3 and beyond. Some sound quite interesting, like the secondary weapon, and the potential "Majora's Mask Sequel" from the January list. The wait for E3 has become nearly unbearable, confirmation on these (somewhat), possibly the next Elder Scrolls, gah!
Also, I like the idea of less items that get used in more and more clever ways, as well as a greater focus on swordsmanship. I suppose we'll see.
And that mock-up is a very well-made picture either way.
Am I the only one who thinks that the rumor that says "There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style" means that Link might have an axe?
Speaking of axes, I would love to see the Bulbins return, especially King Bulbin.
Personally, I would hate it if there were less field time. Whenever I play Zelda, a try to do the dungeons as quickly as I can and then just explore. That's what I didn't like about OCT, because the days were too short and the stupid monster things were always there at night in Hyrule Field.
I don't think a crossbow would really make a difference, maybe just a little less aesthetically pleasing.
A bigger hometown would be better, as long as there are a lot of buildings and people, not just open space. What if Link were from Castle Town?
I like the more sword combat part, but will it use the Motion Plus?
What if they added a multiplayer part? That could be interesting.
I doubt an ax will be the new main weapon, because it would be too unwieldy. Link needs something lighter and quicker. That's what I didn't like about the ball & chain from TWP.
I doubt that this will happen, but what if there's a game where Link is a teacher, and you have to teach a young boy who is your apprentice.
