Wow... worst one yet. Try using creativity and originality for a change.
I thought it was good. Then again, I am not afraid of homosexual, paedophilia or even rape jokes. All in good taste :P
"Try using creativity and originality?" O.o?
When have you seen an experimentally sexual talking frog in anything ever? Pretty original if you ask me!
And funny for it :D
"Yeah, have you seen-"
"fag"
lol
Wow, this is sub-Family Guy stuff. And that's saying something.
Seth MacFarlane has a lot to answer for if this sort of thing is considered decent comedy. WISECRACKING ANIMALS. ORIGINAL.
^ Oh well, win some, lose some.
Different kinds of humour affect different kinds of people- you can keep reading if you want and new stuff'll come up and you might find some you find lol-worthy; or else you can cut your losses and not bother with the 'read mores' from now on.
If you do read them and don't like them, just stop reading. If you want to give feedback, please do, but something beyond 'This sux' or 'it's lame' would be good- otherwise how will we get better? Or, if you really feel like it, post in the forums with ideas you do find funny and we'll draw it (and credit you of course!
I'm not too fussed bout some not getting it- as I say, can't please everybody! I know some people who don't even like F.R.I.E.N.D.S!!!
Comedy's a funny thing.
Peace out-
Matt x
^ P.S.- Don't go blaming MacFarlane; wisecracking animals have been comedy gold since Bugs and Daffy!
I think I added more critique than 'this sux' although you may be referring to one of the other commenters. You really shouldn't cite Bugs and Daffy when it's more than blatantly obvious that the frog is essentially the talking fish from American Dad without the funny accent. He even has the same expressions.
And mentioning Bugs and Daffy shows a clear lack of understanding as to why Bugs and Daffy WORKED as characters.
This comic doesn't feel in the least way related to Zelda. Even when VGCats, a comic full of purile humour, pokes fun at Zelda it does it in a manner that pays respect to the game rather than simply having a comic about perverted old men and homophobic frogs that happens to be happening with a Zelda backdrop.
http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=118
Purile and violent but done well and with amusing parody (not all VGCats strips are good, but this is just an example) unlike someone simply skinning a Goron to make a tent. Replace the Goron with a human and the joke would be idential.
Well, there you go, some constructive critique. I'm not trying to attack the comic just for the sake of it.
If you want to stay purile but add more of the funny I'd highly recommend watching more South Park and less Family Guy.
Funny comic is funny. :P
I am being entirely honest when I say I hadn't any idea there was any link to the goldfish; There are talking frogs in the game, so I included them- I don't see any similarities in behaviour or appearance or art style (and if you're interested, he has a thick Brooklyn accent, the frog!)
Every comic thus far has been derived directly from a scene in Majora's Mask; to your credit this one is perhaps the least as it's introducing the next one, but every one so far has been about playing with timetravel or the peculiarities of the characters/situations of Majora's Mask.
Also- VG Cats do not always make jokes about games- are you saying the jokes based on new situations Leo and Aeris find themselves in are bad? I thought you wanted originality! I don't want to do cuccoo joke after cuccoo joke.
I honestly can't stand South Park. If you think Family Guy is purile when a character farts, at least there is situational comedy involved- South Park is just the fart. I loved the Guinea-Pig episode, but South Park is just immaturity for the sake of immaturity to me, although saying that recent episodes where they've gone political have been slightly less meaningless.
And here is my key point I raised earlier- comedy can't suit everybody. I can't stand South Park, but put FRIENDS on and I'll laugh despite it being the 100th time I've seen the episode. I have a friend who's the complete opposite!
I'm telling the truth when I say next weeks is 100% Zelda based; so I'd like to hear your opinion on that. If you still don't like it feel free to give the comic a wide berth from now on!
..lmao XD Okay, this one surprised me. Nice.
Haha, we get it by now folks: Some people love the gay jokes, some hate them, some think they are pathetic.
We get it. Read the top. "last gay joke for long while". The joke was clearly a to poke fun at our previous comics. It's a "ok time to move on" type comic.
RZ is right though, to this point everything has happened in certain settings all within MM. Think about it: There are talking frogs in MM, the observatory guy is some old dud ehtat just hangs around with little boys... so what can you exect? The bar scene was based entirely on the game, and Link has been screwing around with time, and thanks to the ground hogs day hat, he is screwing around with Murray.
The skinning the Goron one is really the one that was "least" based on in-game stuff. Anyways, You win some you lose some. Like another user said: they don't personally like all of VGcatz stuff, but they do enjoy some of it. When it comes to online webcomics, the audiences are always much broader and different things please different people. Today this comic did please some people. Next week it may please an entirely different crowd.
There have been so really amusing moments in this comic, don't get me wrong. However, some of the dialogue is disjointed and the jokes become a little more "miss" rather than "hit" when characters appear to just be talking at one another rather than with one another. And my biggest problem with this comic is just that. This little segment here could have been much more titilating if the characters spoke in a style that felt like it not only flowed, but meshed well with the context.
I thought we made it flow in this one quite well- read it outloud and everything and it worked... But obviously missed it somehow.
As for other comics- more often than not the disjointed, awkward sentences are for effect as when a character other than Murray is speaking it's usually taken directly from a text dump and are quotations straight from the game!
Now I know why gay guys have a strong fondness for Link. :/
Well, I liked it. It's not "bad" by fact, it's simply a matter of taste in humor.
Hey, bonus points to you for not getting miffed at me for my criticism (or anyone elses), and responding to it nicely, that's a good thing. Maybe I was a little harsh, but damn, that frog does look like that fish. Unintentional maybe it really just rings bells.
And damn, not liking South Park? South Park has ALWAYS been satirical, even it's most dumb episodes are making a point of some kind, which is something that cannot be said of the likes of Family Guy. I can only assume you've been missing the satire entirely, especially if your favourite episode is the guinea pig episode... one of the least satirical. Give it another go. When I was a kid watching it I just saw the gross out stuff and completely missed the satire. Mind you it's more grown up these days. Sort of.
I wouldn't really call Family Guy a sitcom, it used to have situational comedy but that's been lost in favour of endless cutaways and Meg jokes.
Friends is still awesome, especially in the early series. Just watch more of that then, haha!
I'll be fair and check out the next comic. I think that's enough arguing about what style of comedy is best now, no problem with agreeing to disagree.
Well if I don't take in criticism how will we ever achieve the fabled Holy Grail of comedy where everyone finds it funny?
Vis-avis South Park: As I've said, recent episodes tend to tickle me slightly more and I wonder if there was something deeper in old episodes beyond the farts and brutality- unfortunately when I see them I still fail to see it.
As of Family Guy- I actually prefer it now it's less situational. Before it seemed too much like the poor man's Simpsons; but now it seems to have found its niche. Sure, I have to be in a surreal mood truly to appreciate it, but I still consider it a good watch on the whole.
FRIENDS is, as always, unparalleled.
I do know someone, however, who loves both Family Guy and South Park but hates FRIENDS claiming the humour is too stupid... Odd fellow.
Mainly in terms of comedy I'm into panel show improvisational stand up stylee- I'm a Brit; so Youtube "Qi" or "Mock the Week" for some quality British satire ;)
Glad you guys like some good comedy shows. My personal faves are Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office in terms of funny, and Harvey birdman is my favorite comedic cartoon. I definitely feel like th pacing is good; the points are defeinitely made in your panels and they don't drone on and on. That's puts you ahead of most webcomics.
British Office or American Office? I haven't seen much of the US one, but it captures much of the original thanks to Carrell being awesome.
Haven't seen any Harvey Birdman... though what I have seen reminds me of Space Ghost which is always a good thing.
And thanks, Ben :)
Both Offices, really. The American one really has stepped into its own in the most recent seasons. The current season has been the best.
I'll be interested to see where you go from here with the comic. I'm most interested to see if you go back to 72 hours with the Song of Time.
Tried getting into the British Office. Bored as fuck.
Mr. River Zora, I too am a British fellow, which is probably why I'm such a comedy Nazi. I too adore Mock the Week and QI. And if you love them too, my faith in your comedy has restored somewhat. Now prove me wrong further and avoid the cheap gay jokes from now on! I want quality gaming satire, good man, what ho.
As for The Office, I actually prefer the American one for the comedy but the British one was groundbreaking for the style and characters. More cringeworthy to watch though.
Now, The IT Crowd, there's a good comedy...
Majora's Mask just seems to have leant itself well to cheap gay jokes so far! :P I know what you mean though- hence the promise for no more of them!
Got a few good game-based gags coming up- stay tuned! If next week's isn't any better for you then the week after definitely will be! If not I'll eat a hat.
And IT Crowd is fantastic. Though I think I prefer The Boosh comparing casts- I'm a surrealist at heart and Fielding and Barratt being incredibly silly for half an hour is wonderful to watch- though, like Family Guy, it's necessary to be very much in a 'Boosh mood' to enjoy it.
Mannn why you post this stuff up if it isn't funny and very lame =/
