VG2Review's Top 5 Zelda Titles

The homies who make up VG2Review chop it up about the notorious "top 5 Zelda games" list. Ocarina of Time, as expected, takes number one, but like the people of The Globe And Mail, the solid-but-not-classic Minish Cap finds a way to be mentioned amongst the legends. The original Legend of Zelda, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess were up there, too. Where's the Majora's Mask love?

While this is basically their opinion. I really don't like -some- of their "reasons" as to why some of these games are in their top five.

To be honest, they kind of just seem like your generic Zelda fans.

*streams through the video, sees ALttP didn't even get an honorable mention, storms off*

Whether you new gamers like it or not, OoT wouldn't have happened without ALttP as it's, to put it in the terms of people who call TP 'OoT 2.0' just 'ALttP in 3D'.

1-Majora's Mask being on honorable mention

2-Complaining about Twilight Princess' music not being orchestrated

3-Calling Wind Waker's music generic

4-Going on a typical overblown rant about Navi.

These things annoyed me considerably.

I think these count-downs should no longer take OoT in consideration... it's just too well established as the best game of the series (for more or less convincing reasons)

I thought the comments were pretty basic and rather thick mainstream gamer-ish

but whatever

I was impressed they put WW as nr2

Personally the original LoZ, the OoT, and WW are the holy triforce trinity of the series as far as I'm concerned

They seem very different games, when looked at a first glance... yet they are all very close for other, more essential reasons

They were all emblematic of the true recipe for success of the LoZ series

The secret is Revolutionizing

The first LoZ did that: It was the first game to use the open world, sandboxy thing so much. It even had a save function. Epic in scope for it's time.. it had items and an intelligent inventory system. This game shook the foundations of gaming. And it is probably the most far-reaching and most influential of the games

The OoT also revolutionized: But.. it didn't do it so much on a gaming level, as on a series level. It turned the series into 3D. It gave it a new look, yet remained true to the core values of the LoZ series. It was almost two games in one, (young phase - adult phase... similar to the original LoZ option to replay the game in a Master Quest style thing). Perhaps no other Nintendo game deserves a remake as much as OoT.

The WW.. well you can see where I'm going with this: The WW also did what the previously mentioned titles did. It held on to the core values, and re-invented everything else.

LoZ, OoT, WW are titles with a distinct character

imo even MM is less of a generic zelda title than TP (the wolf thing is awesome, but it was already explored in MM and some of the Oracle games, as well as the dual world, which has been around since ALttP, unless I'm mistaken)

I enjoyed TP, but it was a flop for LoZ standards.. I hope the next one will do what every LoZ should do: Revolutionize/Re-invent

Meanwhile there is only one placing on the list I agree with (#1. Ocarina rules. Majora's Mask doesn't even come close, and gets what it earns by being the least of honourable mentions. Meanwhile its a good one, it's not that great of a game when you take your rose-colored glasses off while playing it.) I see their point. I realy think they should not have treated TP so badly just because it's soudtrack. There is so many ther little misdoings in the game, while it's still clearly better than Majora. Minish Cap and Oracle of Seasons? It's so-so wheither aLttP should have been on the list, and which one it should replace.

In ocarina, whining about Navi is about the only thing that really can be done. Whenever Majora is placed under Ocarina, Majora-fans rages (as seen above, right Saria.) Granted, Ocarina needed aLttP, but on the other hand aLttP needed LoZ, and so Does every zelda, even Majora's Mask. So fucking what if Ocarina is nothing new but 3D? It doesn't have to be. It takes the traditional recipie of Zeldas, and uses it better than any game has ever done. That are it's traits, and thats why OoT is clearly the top Zelda.

Dang...I never liked Minish Cap. Why not Link's Awakening? Why OoS? OoA was way better. Yes, it's all opinion but my top five would have to be: OoT, MM, TP, LA and ALttP.

I mean really, no mentioning of ALttP. I'm guessing they haven't played many of the games.

I find it amusing when people try to justify a Zelda game being the best. All of it is completely subjective, and there is no best Zelda game. Ocarina of Time was a great game. So was Majora's Mask. I liked Twilight Princess as well. But is Ocarina of Time the best Zelda game? Not in my opinion, and obviously not in quite a few other people's opinions. But are they aren't wrong, and telling them they are is just elitist bullshit.

Nintendo has not released a bad Zelda game (well excluding the CD-i games), in my opinion, and I really think that's all that matters.

@ Tudor

LOZ was not the first to have a top down open world. It stole it from Ultima and Black Onix, but admission from Miyamoto himself.

Many of hte other elements in the original LOZ, including the puzzles, could be said to be taken directly out of Hylyde. TLoZ was hardly original, it just simply presented those exact same elements slightly better, with better controls.

This is pretty bad, not gonna lie.

alttp isn't in my top 5 either, back end of top 10

I normally don't complain much about Tops, beacause they are all different, every time, as they are the opinions of every gamer who makes them. But as well, the best Tops are the ones that give convincing reasons to place every spot.
These guys are simply babbling about what they like, just because they like it, not giving any firm argument. Plus, I'm also against senseless flaming and insulting, but the boys sound WAY generic and geeky. It's like Beavis and Butthead playing Zelda.

Mehh... I'm just porbablu mad 'cause they said TWW soundtrack is generic... morons ¬¬

@Royalassassin

It's not a matter of Majora's Mask being below Ocarina of Time. I can understand that. It's just that Majora's Mask was not on the main list at all.

all of you nerds should go get a life. hahahahahha

Even though Majora's Mask was one of my favorite games, it should AT LEAST get an honorable mention. It's just that Ocarina of Time was considered better in the eyes of VG2reviews. But that doesn't matter; Majora's Mask was still a great game.

And @your mom

We are not nerds; we just like the Zelda games. Secondly, we already have lives and thirdly, we Zelda fans will get the last laugh.

I just got to applaud that some of my favorite Zelda titles even made it into the "Top 5 Zelda Titles"

@Nate

I find it funny that you now reference to Hydlyde. :D
