While the concept work Nate posted about is probably the most interesting portion of the latest Iwata Asks, it wasn't even the focus of the Justice League-esque gathering of Nintendo high-ups. Just over a month ago, New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the topic of discussion--this time, it's the handheld history of Zelda. Company President Satoru Iwata sat down with Toshihiko Nakago, Takashi Tezuka and Eiji Aonuma to chat about David Lynch's Twin Peaks inspiring Link's Awakening, the challenges of developing a game for technology as new and unfamliar as the Game Boy, how Ocarina of Time would have been different if made directly post-A Link to the Past, their thankfulness for no tea table upending during Spirit Tracks development, and more.Categories: Zelda News
Oh yeah, I also love how Aonuma acts like a fascinated little kid having won an appearance with his heroes the whole time. It seems like half of his lines are "oh wow" or "that's really cool!"
Ok, I just read the whole Iwata asks...if you have any interest in video games it is a must read.
Great stuff over there.
yeah, this one was prob my fav of them all. the twin peaks thing is crazy, never would have thought david lynch was influencing zelda at all.
@nick
Yeah, that made me laugh. Mostly because David Lynch is awesome and so is LA. Why didn't we realize the connection all along?
Ganon is really Zhu Bajie??
Fascinating..............
Damn. I was hoping for some sort of information about the Game & Watch games. =/
"Iwata:
I thought it was a tradition for working on a Zelda title for it to turn into a kind of exercise in suffering."
My favorite line in the whole discussion.
I love these things, I like the casual discussion feel. Like a bunch of friends just chatting about old times. It's refreshing to see people in such high-up positions (especially with a company like Nintendo which from the exterior, seems a bit cold at times) talk to each other like this.
