Holy crap. I'm actually excited. This doesn't bode well...
That you Wind Waker Fairy Queen?
Interesting... definitely looks like something completely different to TP. Time to start speculating about the funky looking new character, but sure does look WW great fairy/fairy queen like.
Said it once, say it again
hair = OoT Link.
The more I look at it, the more convinced I am, and the more I want it to be real.

I dunno about fairy = Master Sword, but I'm getting a vibe that this Link = OoT Link (and, going on a limb, that this fairy = Navi?).
Are you sure that could be Navi?
Why not? I mean, we do have that completely unresolved plotline of Link searching for her before MM...
Doesn't quite seem to fit with "completely different era"
We've never technically seen what happened between OoT/MM and TP aside from MM, which took place in a parallel world and doesn't really count.
Doesn't necessarily have to be OoT Link per se, but Miyamoto did say that this wasn't a sequel to TP awhile back, IIRC, and a closer resemblance to OoT Link might actually reflect that it's BEFORE. (I just happen to like the idea of more OoT Link adventures since the Navi plotline never was resolved.)
You've reminded me, Lex, of some person's theory a while ago that Navi was actually some sort of human, and became Link's lover.
I wonder if this is OoT Link, if there'd be any correlation between this game and the Hero's Spirit.
Haha.. So obvious. PEOPLE-- It's the living form of the Master Sword.
Check her legs, the stripes match the MS's handle
Check her hip, it's the mastersword base (whatever you call it
Then you can see two curved lines going up, which can also be found at the Master Sword
And then, the jewel, also at the master sword.
And of course, all colors can be found at the MS
Of course, not mentioning Link doesn't have a sword in his hands and is looking back like "WTF"?
There! Problem solved!!
That's the exact stuff MDK showed in his image above and is being discussed in the forum thread linked to in the news post. Check it out.

This, of course, does not take away from the Master Sword similarities.
I still feel that she'll be able to be more things than simply the master sword. If not, why bother making her to replace the blade?
Also, her hair looks like the tip of the sword. Her feet may make the bottom of the hilt. Her body is aligned so that the master sword is pointing up when she stands upright.
It's worth noting that the part of her that is glowing forms something somewhat similar in position and shape to where Link's sheath would be.
Yeah, that's what triggered in my mind when I saw the low-rez picture. I couldn't see any of the darkened half of her; I just thought it was part of Link :P. That's where my weaponization theory came from.
Yeah same here. I could not see any sort of person in the original, low-quality picture.
Perhaps...perhaps the Queen of the fairies possessed the master sword?
Well, what was nice was this being released ended the conflicting rumors of it being Zelda, a Zora, or something else. Obviously, first glance, you can easily think it's a Zora, but further examination easily shows many simularities to the master sword. And with myiamoto making note that there is no sword in the picture, you really begin to wonder if it finally took on that living form.
In the end, I'm getting pretty excited, and we have hardly heard a word about it. I can tell Myiamoto really wants to spill the beans though, so we may see the first trailer at spaceworld, or some other convention before E3, next year.
Zelda Wii, I love thee already.
I'm looking forward to this greatly. It's a shame that it's a few years off.
Exciting. I'm glad Nintendo are taking their time with this game, they can get everything right (which they failed to do in TP).
Based on the girl's appearance and the fact that Miyamoto said we should notice that Link has no sword, she is very likely the spirit of the Master Sword (or something of the sort). Guess we will have to wait and see.
Confirmation get!
I have never been so intrigued by the concept of an upcoming game. I can barely wait to see where they go with this.
Looks to me like we have an origins story for the Master Sword here. Perhaps similar to Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, where it was the "lady in the whip"....Except here, we've got the "Fairy in the Master Sword". Interesting
We've already had the Fairy of Winds that resided in the Gale Boomerang. Could this be the Fairy Queen of TWW which resides in the Master Sword?
Wouldn't be surprised in the least if the creature is the Master Sword.
Miyamoto said that this picture had storyline implications and that it was important to note that the Master Sword was missing from Link's hand...hmmmm
A few years off?
Mel, come now. Myiamoto says he hopes to release the game next year. That's a year off, not a few. In a few years, there will be a new console, not a new Zelda. ;)
So, the theories are this woman is the Master Sword, this woman is the Fairy Queen shown in Wind Waker, or that she's both. Since both were shown in Wind Waker as separate, I doubt they're one and the same.
I also doubt it's the Fairy Queen as it is, because she has no visible arms, due to a cloak, that she didn't wear in Wind Waker. She also looks older than in Wind Waker, which would mean that Wind Waker comes before Twilight Princess (ignoring the split, of course). Which I see as unlikely. Wasn't Wind Waker meant to be many hundreds of years after OoT, to Twilight Princess hundred or so? If it is her, then I'd link her more mature appearance on the art style.
But why didn't she appear in earlier games, particularly those taking place after TP, if she IS in fact the Sword?
This is of course assuming that it's a TP sequel, which I think is undeniable now. Others saying it's an OoT sequel, that raises further questions as to why she didn't appear in later games, as of the 6 games to have the Master Sword in, Ocarina is chronologically first.
I don't like referring to an object as a woman. =S
"Since both were shown in Wind Waker as separate, I doubt they're one and the same."
I think the idea is that she's the spirit/embodiment of the power of the Master Sword, in which case we only see her while the sword has still lost its power (when we retrieve the Fire and Ice Arrows, before we even encounter the Sage spirits), which still leaves room for her to be spiritually linked to it.
As far as the plot is concerned, I wonder why the sages had to personify the blade of evil's bane? Maybe it's the other way around. Maybe this takes place before Oot, and they haven't created the master sword yet... that is until now.
It's the Master Sword hands down.
As you can tell by the thread, we've found that her resemblance to TWW's unawakened Master Sword is even greater then it is to the standard Master Sword.
@Nath - I thought he just said it would be announced next year, not necessarily released. But if it was released then, there's still a bit of a delay until it reaches Australia. ;)
yea shes definitely supposed to represent the master sword, Miyamoto even commented "notice link isnt holding his sword." im guessing this game goes into the swords history, which im totally down for
1.......I'am 100% convenced that she is the master sword
but what interests me is how you would play a zelda game that has sword fight (and 1 on 1 sword play aparently) with no master sword (in swrod form) unless she could transform back and forth. But what's interesting is that link has no sword holster (the thing that holds his sword on his back)
2.....This does not seem to be a 2nd TP game for three reasons
1: look at him...... clearly not the same TP face looks more like OOT
2: if you look closly at his brown stap on his back there is one stap but in TP there are two staps http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/9/99/TP_Link_Concept.png were in OOT art there is one http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/8/80/Adult_Link.jpg
3: in a interveiw they said it would not be a 2nd TP
all of this said may be true, i haven't heard anyone say yet of link being right-handed, since he's holding his sheild in his left and the strap for his scabbard is facing the other direction.
ofcourse seeing that the fairy queen/master sword little girl totally resembles the powered down master sword, it's possible she turns in to it via the same way characters do in the anime soul eater.
Well, I heard that there will be a first person fighting mode, and if it's true the new zelda won't be so good. But the wii motion plus could be used, so it will be very more fun than TP. I don't know how much time will they take for create zelda wii and to translate it in italian, but i'll be here to play it and solve the "Fairy's mistery"!!!
Have nice holidays!
Glad to see this pic implies they'll be using a more TP-like art form for the game.
I loved WW and all, and the art style did have a certain charm once you got used to it, but I like the art style of TP more for it's gritty realism.
WHY is everybody focusing on the girl behind him? Look at the background! The right side of Link is normal, but the left side is fading and/or blurring. And then at the top left, the wall is completely red/orange. So pay attention to something other than the girl behind him. I mean, yeah, she must be important, but everyone has addressed that she may be the Master Sword, or Navi, or the Great Fairy, so gibe it a rest!
Another thing that I noticed just about now is that the right side or Link's body is fading, but not the left. So maybe the story is something like this:
Something is causing Hyrule to disappear,(or fade, whatever you want to call it) and the Master Sword(assuming Link is right-handed) disappeared. Then, the Goddesses sent a fairy, or spirit, or some sort of Deity, to help Link, who was chosen as some hero(Hero of Time, Hero of Winds, etc.), to fight back the magic that is causing this(Ganondorf). If not, then she may be the Spirit of the Master Sword, like everyone said, but she needs Link's help, like Minda needed Link. Then as you fight back this "fog" of sorts, more areas and items are revealed, eventually getting you the Master Sword. Then, the girl is either optional, like Minda halfway through Twilight Princess, but at some point her powers may be necessary. Also, eventually you may go through the fog, on purpose, or on accident, like the Twilight, and it may suck everything into another world, maybe because Ganondorf is trying to make his own world , and people going through become slaves. Or, Ganondorf is wiping Hyrule clean off the map to make his own world.
Thanks for reading, and please respond.
all right, this is my theory: near the end of the game, before or midway through the final battle with ganondorf, the girl in question with sacrifice herself to become the master sword, allowing link to defeat ganondorf. this would mean that this new game would come somewhere before the introduction of the master sword, which would be, as far as i know, sometime before OoT. please comment! :]
Okay, people, has there EVER been a legit sequel to any Zelda title?
1/. I know as all of you have noticed that Link does not have his legendary master sword, and obviously the spirit girl resembles the sword.
2/. Have any of you noticed that his shield looks a little different?
3/. Notice how the wall in front of Link looks like that it has been blown up, and what's beyond that hole looks oddly "hellish", in my opinion.
Possibly Gannondorf has been sent to the sacred realm once more and has found a way to ravage the sages and their realm, and MAYBE while you are in this realm the master sword takes the spirit form you see as that girl.
(To note what Korok said, Link may not be able to sustain his human form in the sacred realm, thus he begins to disappear (another note on Korok, your theory resembles TP wayy too much when it's obvious what Miyamoto said about the new game "It is not a sequel to TP!!"))
4/. No Link has ever been the same human body, but a reincarnation of the Hero of Time(except for MM when kid Link stumbles into that alternate dimension on the search for his love Princess Zelda, no body has really noticed that but me I presume) I also have no clue as to which Hero this Link is going to turn out to be, or if it's going to be a new hero.
5/. Princess Zelda usually doesn't stick around with Link during any of the games, maybe the master sword has been fused with the Princess so Link can carry Zelda where ever this new adventure takes him.
6/. I doubt you will start out as the Link you see portrayed in this art work, by what means he gains his Hero status I do not know yet.
But this is my opinion on the new shit, I am already extremely excited about this new title, I practically bought the Wii for nothing much Zelda titles, Metroid, and Super Smash Brother's, because come on people, Nintendo is lacking in good legit games, and they are not expressing the potential for their new console! And this leads me to play many gamecube games on their new next gen system, I should be playing brand spankin' new AWESOME titles from this generation of consoles, when I'm stuck playing N64 classics.
Oh well, I do respect the fact that they are trying to repopulate the world full of gamers.
This new Zelda title is going to be my obsession for the next year or so.
Just as TP was when I first saw the trailer, I can't wait for new info on it and what not.
Peace outtt home skillet!
If you look down towards the bottom of the image, there appears to be a blue aura emanating underneath the new figure, almost like a blue flame or maybe even a blue light exuding down and around the figure. A popular motif of the LoZ games is the triangular relationship between Link, Zelda and Ganondorf; green, blue, red; courage, wisdom, power. Perhaps this new figure with similarities to the Master Sword also represents Zelda's presence in the game, as the ominous, fiery red represents Ganondorf.
With a closer look into the background, there appears to be an indistinguishable figure to the right of Link. Along the same latitude as Link's head, you can make out what looks like a face with two circles for eyes and gritted teeth. Underneath this is a darker image which can either be seen as a torso or even an additional figure staring downwards and to the right. Looking further down towards the right of Link's right hand, you can see a darker shape which may resemble a leg or two.
What I've also noticed is that while Link's left side is clearer than his right, the stone walls are the opposite. The wall on the left is foggy and blurry while the right side is significantly less distorted. Perhaps this is a representation of the balance between the opposition of clarity and distortion, light and dark, or even past and present like seen in OoT.
Also, the detail on the wall on the right seems similar to that of a dungeon like we've seen when first transformed into a wolf in TP. Perhaps this is a scene taking place in a deep underground dungeon where Link has found the entrance to a hellish domain of Ganondorfs, into which he must enter to battle Ganon.
Any thoughts?
from what i herd you fight vati ganon and belum at the same time and they sortof fuse together to form some super monster of somesort. leg and head of ganon. body and left arm of vati. the tentical of belum on the right arm.
sounds crazy but i got my sorces from a friend who told me this. it might not be true i don't know.

it might just be me but, just to the right of the angery dude GERUDO saw I see zelda's face looking away from link. anyone else see this?
I also notice something on the Blue figure's left cheek, maybe a cut, or gash?
1st it 100% the master sword in some form!
2nd it looks like his right hand is a claw or something evil!
My theory is something happened and his arm was transformed by evil and to protect him, the master swords spirit was awakened, transformed, or taken over. (Example: In T.P. Link was transformed into a wolf, to protect him form fading away in the dark realm.) Not that i think this game is gonna resemble T.P. in any way!
Comment to this?
I used a photo effects thing on this very picture, and I found out that link is standing at the entrance to a cave, or dungeon. It turns left, and there are lots of little markings on the walls, almost like the ones in twilight princess. There are no faces or anything, its all wall.
Maybe if it is OoT link then maybe that is navi + master sword think about it they both came out of the storyline at the same time so maybe navi combined with the master sword.
My goodness, my brother was right. She DOES look like the Master Sword!
